In The Cut: Sam Divine

We are kicking off 2021 with an extra special edition of our In The Cut editorial series. Sam Divine is a long time mate of ours and it was about time we got her involved on the site! So, instead of the usual 5 tracks, we asked the first lady of Defected to rustle up 10 tunes that have inspired her sound over her career.

If you like what you see here, we reckon you'll love the tunes that Lindsey Matthews chose...

The Notorious B.I.G - One More Chance Remix

Probably my favourite track of all time, I passed my driving test and the sound system cost more than the car and this was the record on repeat!

Lionel Richie - All Night Long

I will always have an undying love for this track, ingrained in me by my mum and became a staple part of my set when I entered the house scene… I moved to Ibiza in 2005 and ran parties at Hush, and this nugget was always the closing moment.

Ferrer & Sydenham Inc. - Sandcastles

There is a nostalgic moment from my early days of raving, with the sun shining through the windows, Passion FM blaring after an epic night at Chunnel Club in Vauxhall.

Frankie Knuckles Presents Satoshi Tomiie - Tears

Frankie is a house OG and always someone I looked up to and will always look up to. I played this track at Southport Weekender which is the mecca of soulful house and energy, surrounded by my gang, it’s a special moment in my heart.

Larry Heard Presents Mr. White - The Sun Can’t Compare

A beautiful piece of music that was funnily enough my ring tone on my 8210 phone, a timeless classic - one of the most incredible tracks to have been written.

Intruder featuring Jei, A Murk Production - Amame

Such a deep banger, a track I don’t think ever had enough credit, me and my best friend had amame tattooed (meaning love me in Spanish) as it struck a chord with us so hard, an underground rhythm that hits the spot.

Tony De Vit - The Dawn

When I very first started DJ’ing in 2001, I was a Hard House / Trance devotee … this was a Miss Divine Anthem!

Dazz Band - You Are My Starship

Another special track with all the feels, the RnB vibes run through me and have a big influence in my sets. It’s also mine and my husbands first dance!

Kings Of Tomorrow featuring Julie McKnight - Finally

The ultimate WEAPON! This track is feel good, let go and do you. A masterpiece that has a place in every set.

John Summit & Gus - Thin Line

This is not only a firm favourite but also the message for 2020. The original was dope and this rework is just incredible, sick production and impeccable messaging.
